Hotel Monopol

Front middle of the first photo where the two blurred people are is where the station escalator is situated. In that photo you can also see the bar that we visited most nights, the two windows bottom left to the front of the hotel and the four windows around the left side of the hotel.

In the second photo the two windows that can be seen, top right are the windows to the room we stayed in. As I mentioned before, it was a room with a view ;-)

Looking Up!!

I have to confess, it reminded me of the Vermont in some ways…

I am looking forward to seeing how they have transformed the reception area in the Vermont (not long to wait ;-) ). The hotel staff were very proud and excited by the ongoing renovations to the hotel.

After a certain time at night access to the top floor of the Monopol (where our room was) was by resident card only, the only floor that was. I was quite curious about why that would be…

I have stayed in many hotels in my time, but the one that stands out in my memory is the Forest Park Hotel on Mt. Troodos in Cyprus. That was the venue for my first honeymoon. Not quite as ‘grand’ as the one you show here, but so peaceful, surrounded by trees and with a great pool. The view over the mountain slope down to the sea at Limassol and out across the Med was worth the taxi ride, and thereby hangs a tale. One day I might tell !!

    :)

I bet the views and atmosphere surrounding that hotel were wonderful :-)

You have me curious about your taxi ride to the med ;-)

I remember the Troodos mountains well, exploring them in a less than adequate car…

At one point the road (I use the term loosely) was being repaired and there was a diversion. There were some random traffic cones taking us onto a lot of stones and rubble with no clear directions as to where we should be going. I had visions of being stuck on the side of a mountain!! But following our nose downwards we eventually ended back on what passed for a road.

I stayed in Paphos at the Paphos Beach Hotel. This was also a very nice hotel and for some reason in that particular week it was far cheaper to stay there than any other week.
