Is it just me or is there something menacing in old churches?

I don’t find them menacing I find the interesting and sometimes spectacular. Some of them have a lovely feel to them when you walk inside.

Do you know – I can remember more about the inside of Hereford Cathedral, than the outside. I guess I never stood far enough back to take it all in.
As I am always interested in organs and their music, I was amazed to be able to walk behind the really massive bass pipes of the organ at floor level: 18″ square and I’m sure a 32 feet pitch. Fantastic. I would have loved to have heard it.
Another unusual item in there was the HUGE barrel shaped heating stove. I had never seen anything like it before!
What a shame I missed the outside.
Many thanks for showing me what I had overlooked. :)

The massive organ pipes caught my attention too, you don’t often get to see them that close. I took a photo of those heating stoves, I thought they were very unusual. They were pumping out a few therms on the day that I visited.
