Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside awakens.
Carl Jung (1875-1961)

  1. I just never could get that use of “heart” despite it being so common. The heart is a pumping muscle. I am a mind.

Jung and Freud & Co. don’t do much for me either… too much pseudoscience and even cheating in their stuff, I’d say.

    Lovely photo though. Great reflections.

In this quote you should probably substitute ‘heart’ for ‘mind’.

The quote should then make more sense…

      • You probably mean substitute ‘mind’ for ‘heart’ rather than ‘heart’ for ‘mind’, for there is no ‘mind’ there to be substituted… but I see what you mean. Also, since ‘Pedantry’ is my middle name I am not sure I can ‘look’ into my mind, but I can think into it, and… I have always also had a problem with the ‘my’ of the phrase ‘my mind’, for I AM that mind, so that’s like saying ‘my me’…. and yes, not only a pedant but an unusually irritating one too… But I enjoy being irritating, and I think repeated endeavour has made me quite good at it. Goodnight.

I knew the mind concept would throw you into a tizz.

And maybe your self confessed ‘pedantry’ has stopped you from thinking about what the ‘thought’ really means. Or maybe you are uncomfortable thinking about what the thought really means…

But anyway, if it is that time already…

          Goodnight ;-)

“The heart is a pumping muscle. I am a mind.”

The heart is not a pump (nor is it a machine)-

…and your mind contains this ‘pumping machine’ as well as everything else. Like the man said “look into your own heart” and all will be shown to you
      :)

      • Oh deary me JD, I’ve read all that before. An awful lot of rubbish around (and you may of course include this as you wish). Anyways…. whatever I am (and I don’t know) I am seeking oblivion now.

        • But, as oblivion calls me, funny how the heart can be cut out and completely replaced by a simple mechanical pump, and life and though and empathy and emotion continues all hunky-dorey, but switch that pump off and it does not… And now, I am off… forever if my big heart muscle stops rhythmically contracting… Yes, quite possibly forever…

…..oh, that was too short (isn’t technology wonderful)

Why don’t we just call it SOUL. It has no biological substance. Everybody has one, though some people deny it. But that’s really what control our thoughts and our feelings. And it’s the part of us which will never die.

    Great photo, Cherie.

  3. I “heart” this saying :)

As long as you can Verb-alize your Vision. :)

Soul is a great substitute, although I see nothing wrong with heart.

But not everyone has a soul. Psychopaths don’t. :)

That’s a gorgeous photo Cherie. Where is it from?

Your photos often make me want to go inside of them.

    • CherryPie says:

Everyone has a soul, although some souls are tainted.

It is taken in Hodnet Hall Gardens. It was nice to see the pond weed had been removed and the ponds were looking beautiful again :-)

What a beautiful quote and photo. I am a fan of Jung but I’d say I’m a disciple of Erik Erikson. Some 20 years after I studied psychology, I still use Erikson to understand my life. The existentialists have also had an impact on me in later life.
