On Sunday the 1st June the National Service (RAF) veterans annual parade took place at Cosford. One of the events billed was a fly past by the Battle of Britain Memorial Dakota (weather permitting). Sunday morning was glorious so we set off for Cosford in order to watch the display.
We stood on a grassy bank and, as luck would have it, one of the people nearby had a radio frequency scanner and was following the plane’s approach and from which direction it would be coming. After we had enjoyed the plane flying over and taken a photograph or two, a gentleman who was standing next to me turned round and said to another gentlemen, ‘Your lens is making me feel inadequate’ (it was a rather large zoom lens). A little bit of good humored lens envy going on
Cosford brings back such wonderful memories Cherie… i’m so glad that you got a chance to see the Dakota fly past…
now what’s all this nonsense about lens sizes:)
….peter:)
It was good to see the Dakota especially as we had recently seen the memorial Hurricane flying past near to our house recently.
Oh the lens thing was appreciation of good photographic equipment. But all such equipment is only as good as the user. Most importantly the user has to have a good eye for a photograph
Your lens, whatever the size, did you proud, Cherie!
I won’t get all technical I got a few photos I was happy with and the ones I am less happy with are nothing to do with the lens
Boys will be boys!
Boys and their toys
Lovely picture.
A Dakota was the first plane I actually flew in – as a passenger of course.
After the war I guess many were taken up by smaller airlines. They may have been built new as passenger planes but I flew from Jersey to Gurnsey in the late sixties on the Island ‘hopping’ service. I remember the seats were canvas, a bit like today’s picnic chairs and I remember those square windows being very low down, well below waist level. They didn’t seem very powerful and on take off you really wondered if you were going to clear the hedge at the end of the field. :O
Great fun – great days. I must did out my photos of that hol.
Cheers. Unc B.
It is lovely to hear from you
It sounds like you had good fun on those flights. I hope you manage to find your holiday pictures. If you do, please post them, I would love to see them
Superb photos Cherie – I love the second one. So much sky and freedom.
Thank you I too like the feel of that photo.
Hi Cherie, Nice photos with a good story to go with them.
Thanks Jane, I am glad you enjoyed them
