On our visit to Old Sarum we were treated with a fine aerobatic display from a plane that had taken off from the nearby airfield. It was only later, when I returned from my travels that I realised that it was possible to visit the airfield site. Maybe next time

I attended a ‘course’ at Old Sarum. It has a fine old Mess. The NATO Psych Warfare Officer’s Course attracted a dozen or more Nations each of which could only send a few Officers. The RAF had seven places a year and for some reason (maybe simply because I asked) I was sent there one year in the seventies. My goodness, the tales I could tell. There was Lt Col Fritz and the pedigree puppy; the RAF chopper pilot at breakfast; not to mention my ‘practice’ psyWar escapade on the train on the way there. Happy daze.
It sounds like that course was at LOT of fun
It also sounds like you shared it with some characters
You are reminding me of some of my own encounters over the years
Wonderful captures of a old biplane doing acrobats for you Cherie… my favorite shot is the third one where you just have part of the rolling fields below it… the grass airfield is also cool….peter:)
That photo gives a feeling of movement due to the angle it was taken.
That’s a treat – and you did well with those shots! Coincidence – I’m planning a post shortly on old aircraft!
I look forward to seeing your post
never mind the airyplanes, that photo upper left of the red road through the park is excellent, outstandingly wonderful
Thank you
I rather like the hay bales in the second from bottom photo.
What would you have done at the airfield site? Could you have cadged a flight?
I was thinking of looking at the planes displayed in the hangar
