I see the European squirrel in England, too, seems to have problems with the American invader.
This one got very cross with me. I took this photo and he ran up a tree and started making angry noises towards me.
The lovely red squirrels are quite rare in the UK now.
Lots of red squirrels up here in Scotland though, including one in our garden tree on occasion, plus plenty of greys. The reds seem to be making a comeback (perhaps having developed resistance to an illness carried in by the greys?) and I hear the now more hardy reds are also spreading southwards again, like ginger-haired Scots crossing the border soon perhaps, but maybe more welcome than some of our ginger-haired Scots. And it’s a great time of the year for woodland walks.
I would love to see red squirrels in my Shroppy lands. I have only ever had the privilege of seeing a red squirrel on two occasions.
The first time was near Loch Earn and the second time was near to Chillingham Castle.
I created this image from the blurry photo of the second occasion (and yes he was that close to me).

It looks a lovely wood to walk round and blissfully free of people!
I was surprised at how quite it was. I wondered if it was because shops and other non essentials are now open.
I walked a different route today and that was also quiet…
oh i loved the cute squirrel nice shot ,all of them so lovely!
Thank you
The squirrel got a bit mad at me after I took his photo.
