I am very familiar with the history of Bletchley Park, and am well aware of its importance during WW2. But I have never seen photos of the building, inside or out, nor have I seen the offices and furniture. Many thanks for helping us relive an era that has long gone.

  2. What a beautiful building to be housed in – such an interesting post. I would love to visit.

I guess you have seen the film about this, Cherie – if not, please try to catch it. I am particularly pleased to see your picture of Alan Turing’s office

The house and grounds are stunning, it is a shame that the upper floor of the house isn’t open to the public.

You can click on the photo twice to enlarge it for better detail.

      *hugs*

I have a twitter friend who was on Desert Island Discs – she wrote a fascinating book about Bletchley Park!

Happy New Year to you too :-)

After our visit I picked up a book on Bletchley from a local garden centre. I haven’t had the chance to read it yet.

  7. Have you seen the film, the Imitation Game?
    Worth watching. :)

  8. It is such a fascinating place. I don’t believe the popular films are particularly accurate, but at least they give the place a well-deserved plug! I’m impressed that it was never mentioned on my history course at university!

It seems that there is a history block in education. This week we visited the Cosford Cold War Museum with an young relative. Our young relative had not heard of the Cold War and how near the superpowers had got to mutual extinction.

One of his school subjects was history…

And for the record my history classes only taught me about the industrial evolution. I learned no wider history from my school years.

  9. I’d love to visit Bletchly Park one day.
