… Malta’s National Museum of Art
On our last day in Malta we had just enough time to visit this museum which houses some lovely artworks.
MUZA is the National Museum of Art, branded as the Malta National-Community Art Museum. The word MUZA us a translation of the Maltese word for ‘inspiration’ and also stands as an acronym for MUZ(ew NaZZjonali tal-) A(rti), in English – Nationa Museum of Art. It also refers to the muses, the mythological figures from Classical Antiquity inspiring creativity and, in effect, the etymolobical source of the word, ‘museum’.
I didn’t know the origin of the meaning of “Museum”, Cherie. I might have wanted to take that owl home!
The owl is lovely he would fit well with my collection of owls.
I also like Christ bearing the Cross, that is anothe outstanding artwork.
This place aMUZA’ed me.
Oh how’s my Maltese?
I think your Maltese needs a little more work
We’re not a’MUZA’ed.
LOL
It’s amazing to think just how talented these artists were!
And it is good to know that there are still talented artists around.
I also did not know the etymology of the word ‘museum’. How fascinating. I definitely feel inspired and in connection with my muse when I visit museums.
That first sculpture of the woman and her crown is stunning
It is a portrait of Queen Sophie of Greece by Antonio Sciortino.
