The valley garden at Quarry Bank is a rare example of the industrial picturesque movement, where elements of nature such as the caves and cliffs feature alongside the industrial mill backdrop to create a sense of drama.
Take in the elevated views over the valley and discover Hannah Greg’s favourite spot to sit and enjoy the garden. Head to the Walled Garden to see what grows there, and step inside the historic curvilinear glasshouse where exotic plants and fruits are grown. Don’t miss the exotic succulants in the Small Glass House, in the center of the Walled Garden.

Is the curvilinear glasshouse only used for exotic plants and fruits? Or do they protect the local plants and fruits during the snowy weather as well?
I don’t think it is used for local plants.
this is an interesting post, CP. In Singapore, we have some disused tin quarry mines which are now surrounded by nature.
Those disused mines sound wonderful. I love it when nature claims back industrial sites.
Lovely photographs.
That bench would be a good place to sit a while.
All the best Jan
I too think the bench is just perfect
Oh I have never seen such well before?!
Did they really use the water there to water apple trees?
It’s Heritage Open Days this week!
Did you see any interesting places in Shropshire?
I saw one in Central London yesterday.
I think it might have beeen a water source for the gardens. Although not functional at the moment.
Sadly we have not had the opportunity to take advantage of the Heritage open day.
it’s okay if you missed Heritage Open Days.
This coming weekend is London Open House.
Not sure you have similar event in your town, worth checking maybe?
There are a few things happening near me this weekend for Heritage Open Days. I am not sure if I will get the opportunity but I will visit one if i can.
I love gardens like this. I can wander in them for hours, often to the mild dismay of poor Stephen
Oh I know how you feel I can stroll around gardens for a long time whilst Mr C enjoys them at a more speedy pace.
I love this time of year – sunflower time! Beautiful garden …
I love sunflowers and dahlias in early autumn
