Torricelli is another water feature in the Serpent Garden. The water slowly creeps up the tubes and eventually bursts out in a cascade of fountains which slowly diminish. Kids are fascinated by this one and love to explore the feature first hand

This central courtyard dates from the 1280s:
As early as the 14th century, cisterns were installed beneath it, to which water was supplied for the castle from springs in the park.  The yard was totally refurbished in the 1920s by Lady Baillie’s designer Rateau. *

This cascade which was built for the 1st Duke of Devonshire is spectacular. A sign by the side of the temple at the top of the cascade provides some interesting information about both the cascade and the garden’s water features:
