There was a torrential downpour that lasted several hours on the morning I was due to depart for my garden lovers break.  This led to a slow start to the day and the rain was much lighter when I set off.  I tried to call into a cafe for lunch and ended up in a muddy field so there was a change of plan.  Unfortunately there were no directions on how to get out of the field and it turned out that I had to do a bit of offroading to escape!!!

Plan B was Snowshill ManorNational Trust properties always have a nice selection for lunch and I wasn’t disappointed on this occasion.  After lunch I visited the manor which was 10 minutes walk away.  By this time the rain was very fine and light and it even stopped long enough for me to enjoy the gardens and take a few photographs.  The manor itself was very interesting, the contents were collected by Charles Wade.  The contents were sourced entirely in the United Kingdom and are a varied collection of craftmanship.  He spent many hours re-arranging the collection and lived in the old cottage across the courtyard.

The garden was sadly neglected when Charles purchased the manor, so with the help of a former colleague M. H Baillie he designed a new garden.  I think he did a good job, the gardens were wonderful.
