After the nice relaxing visit to Bowood there was a bit of time to spare before dinner so a trip to see the white horse at Westbury seemed like a good idea.  That was until the slow trog through Devizes.  Firstly there was a lot of traffic and also there seemed to be some sort of police emergency going on with sirens all over the place.  I had to do emergency stops on two occasions to let speeding police vehicles get by.

Well the hill at Westbury was as cold as ever, the horse as big as ever, and the view as spectacular as ever if you ignore the cement factory which sort of spoils the landscape a bit.

I’ve been there and touched that.

I have been there 3 times and I haven’t touched it. Although the first time I visited I also got to visit Stonehenge without the barriers. I stood amongst the stones looked up and was able to go up to the stones and touch them. I would love to be able to do that in the same way now…

That is an amazing place to visit, as are all the others you visited and shared with us. I am sure I have seen that garden on a Capability Brown program on TV some time ago.

  4. I love the White Horse. The area is a treasure trove of delights, eh?

It is full of delights, it is one of my favorite places to visit. The other is Northumberland where I will be going later in the year :-)

Why is there a grid on the horse?
    Love that sky.

  6. I’ve always loved that horse. Thank you for reminding me of it.

We just had the most delightful weather up there. And NO wind, Chris and Lisl told us that it was remarkable, because there is ALWAYS wind up there.
    Lucky us.
I am impressed with places like this.

Thank you for pointing out the horse has two names, I never knew that!

You were lucky is was very windy on the occasions that I visited. I will have to look out the photos of Mr C and I looking very windswept (and young) from many years ago ;-)
