The outflanking tactic of the English army forced the Scottish army to move from their strong position on Flodden Ridge. They moved to a new position at Branxton where the English army had chosen to position themselves.

Looking at that, the pointlessness of war springs to mind. Such beautiful countryside.
There was a certain sort of peace about it on the day that I visited.

Gorgeous peaceful scene … time heals, I suppose. Just read a post on another favourite blog to the effect that we’re ‘all shadows’.
It does look so serene and peaceful, it is very hard to visualise so much blood being shed there.
