I was determined to take advantage of the sunny weather and hopefully get some pictures of spring flowers.  I did manage to track down some flowers in one of the local parks but it was rather crowded and the wind was a little chilly.  I took a few photos and beat a hasty retreat.  I wasn’t quite ready to go home so I went for a little drive round and was drawn to Buildwas Abbey.

As I stepped into the grounds it was like stepping into another world, it was so peaceful and the sun was so warm with not a breath of wind.  Two gentlemen followed me in to the Abbey and they were obviously very keen on the architecture.  They got quite excited when they saw the Chapter House and rushed down into it, I could tell by their voices they were obviously impressed.  Then I heard one of them test the acoustics of the chamber.

What came next was quite amazing.  He burst into song with a Benedictine Chant and his voice was wonderful.  I didn’t want to disturb the moment, so I sat outside on a bench listening to the music which lasted for about 10 minutes.

I was obviously meant to be there at just that moment in time, I was even rewarded with the flowers I had been looking for ;-)

It was a special moment when everything came together, a moment to treasure. There is no way I could have kept that one to myself xx

Buildwas is gorgeous, and how privileged you were to share that delightful moment with the two men. But the chant would have been Gregorian (and Buildwas was – as so many of the Marches foundations – Cistercian).
