Edward Ferrers was responsible for creating this  ‘court garden’ by 1722 as part of his improvements to the house.  It is an enclosed and formal area of grass, in the centre of which a sundial has recently been reinstated.*

I wasn’t aware that there were historical apple trees. One lives and learns.

  5. Did NT plant any apple trees against the wall in espalier style?
I have seen some espalier apple trees at Lambeth Palace garden in London.

Have you heard of Open Garden Squares Weekend (OGSW) in London?
You pay £10 and that allows you to visit 200 plus garden for 2 days in London.
Most of the gardens are normally closed to the public, so it’s a great chance to discover secret gardens in London.
Some of the gardens are open to the public but admission charged. But if you’ve got the

  6. …OGSW ticket, it’s free!
For example, entrance to Chelsea Physic Garden (one of the many gardens that take part in OGSW) itself will cost you £8. So it’s definitely good value for your money! But you need to plan ahead, most beautiful gardens can be found in West London, where the richest people live! Ha, ;)
If you’re into gardening, I think you shouldn’t miss this OGSW.
This is my 4th year doing OGSW. :)
