The walled garden at Floors castle was an unexpected treat and it was free to visit:

Here, Queen Victoria took tea during her visit in 1867. Today’s visitors can enjoy the splendid food and refreshments on sale at The Terrace restaurant. home bakes, cakes and shortbread, traditional game pies, pates, preserves and jams are all made in the kitchens of Floors Castle. All served in the small restaurant or outside in the terrace that looks onto these delightful gardens.

Many of the great gardening traditions can be seen here – espalier fruit trees, topiary and traditional Scottish garden favourites. Ornamental borders also co-exist alongside soft fruit and vegetable beds, surrounding the peach glass house. The most remarkable feature of the garden are the original Victorian iron poles, dripping with huge swags of crimson American pillar rambling roses and purple clematis.

Now why have I never been there, despite endless trips to and through the area? I should rectify that.

I think a few weeks on from my visit that the colours would have been quite spectacular. I have a few blooms from the garden, set up to post tomorrow :-)

It has a very nice Terrace Cafe next to it. I behaved myself and only had a cup of tea there though ;-)

  2. What a lovely garden!
    I’ve never been to Kelso.
Been to a place called Jedburgh, saw their abbey, and River Tweed (?), I think.

  3. Such beautiful gardens … I mostly love those purple colors!

I’ve been to Kelso, Jeburgh and all those. Lovely part of the world.

I love Floors castle but I’ve ever seen this part once. Your photos are lovely, great choice of angles and colours.

      Thank you :-)

It is part of the garden centre and that is why it is free to get in. Although if you walk to the castle from there you have to pay to go through the other gardens that are in the grounds.
