Les Lices

This is a day time view of les lices (this lists) that were shown in the previous post. The lists is the area between the inner and outer city walls and is the place where knights took part in competitions and jousting, hence the name.

I have just caught up with all your Carcassonne pictures and commentary, Cherie. What a wonderful experience that holiday must have been

Thanks Lisl, it was and I wish I could have stayed a bit longer there was so much more I wanted to see.

That is the problem down here, there is always more to see like the Roman iron smelting works – not much left of that now, the other castles and the old part of Perpignan.

My village had a castle on the top of the hill but a lot of it went into building the houses in the old part of the village. When I first moved here there were still a couple of the old builders that would go to the remains to get stone for repair and extension of the old houses, noe the builders use concrete blocks.

I did not know about the iron smelting works, they sound interesting. But I did want to go and see some of those castles, some of the villages, some cathedrals and more of the countryside :-)

Thanks for the information about your village and how it was when you first arrive, very interesting.
