…of Starlings

On my recent weekend away in Paris there was a very relaxing video playing in the reception area. It showed a Starling murmuration.  It is similar to this one, although it was minus the sunset (and the  music).

It was very relaxing… Enjoy ;-)

PS: You will note I have cracked the YouTube embedding problem which has been bugging me for months ;-) The default code does not work on my blog, but now with a few days stuck at home with limited options (bathroom being refitted) I have had the mind-space to figure it out and I have found two ways to get it to work!

It is strange that Kath in Glastonbury has only the other day, posted up about flocks of Starlings there. I didn’t know they were known as a ‘murmuration’. (spell checker doesn’t either). Birmingham city centre was the place for Starlings – when I was a lad. You could hardly hear yourself speak for the squawking. Certainly not murmuring! :)
I’m glad you have the embedding sorted. I notice many people seem to have trouble. Angus posts up ‘thumbnail’ sized videos. :(
No good for my ageing eyes. YouTube lets you customise them to the column width you require, but I see you have that mastered. :)
    Cheers….B

I hardly see any starlings near me these days, they used to be very numerous and very noisy!!

One of the reasons I changed my blog template a while ago is so that I could show larger versions of my photos and this was also good for when I occasionally post a video :-)

I am glad I have got the video links working again, it has been annoying me for some while.

Well done on cracking the youtube problem.

  3. Such a beautiful video!

Ah well, now I go back to hacking the page source to find the video ;)

It is good that you have worked out how to embed the video. My problem is that there is no flash player for my operating system (OS/2) so I have to download videos as mp4 and watch that way ;) but then I’m the odd man out.

The hacking the page source I know will be easy for you, it is hidden in plain view for anyone who knows how to look ;-)

I am curious about OS/2… Do you use that because it is a safer option?

The problem with YouTube was is their new code was in an Iframe which for some reason WordPress refuses to accept. I paste the code in but it vanishes…

I found that if I just posted the page URL that embedded the page automatically, but it it didn’t allow me to centre the video and I have to admit I am a bit pedantic on things like that. Then I noticed that they have now added an option to use the old YouTube code. That certainly wasn’t there before!!!

Found it, downloaded it, watched it and now have it stored on my NAS so I can play it at any time.

I have used OS/2 on all my computers since 1995 for several reasons. It just works which is why some of the worlds largest companies use it on their servers today, years after IBM officially dropped support. On my server it has been running 24/7 for the last 18 months without a reboot. I could go on about the fact it uses an active desktop – change some document and it is changed wherever it is on the desktop, even in folders that are in folders that are in folders – something windows hasn’t managed yet. Also there are no virus attacks that work so I can use it to copy data from infected windows computers, clean it and the windows computer and do a clean restore – until the next time.

Actually you should be glad that WordPress refused to allow an iFrame because they are used as a major route for delivering malware – things like keyloggers, spambots etc.

The thing about you being pedantic is, to put it nicely, rubbish. You have made your site the way it is because you know how you want it to appear to your readers just like any good artist.

I am glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the information about OS/2, I found it interesting.

And thank you for you kind comments about my site :-)
