    My family of origin could easily fit at that above table, Cherry. There were 10 of us in our day. :) And what a sweet half-round table in front of the fireplace. Do you know how it was used?

    Do you know what are the reliefs on the walls are depicting, by any chance?

    I love the wood – walnut? Could even be…oh, say…Cherry? :)

      The wood is mahogany. The NT handbook is rather brief on the subject, this is what it says about the wall reliefs:

      These are after the Antique in the style of Felice Giani and may possibly be the work of Vincenzo Valdre.

        Would you believe that mahogany was my first guess? Only I thought it was indigenous to the Americas and seldom used in Europe. Shows what I know :)

          Mahogany is was of the most popular woods here. But personally I prefer Yew, Oak or Cherry in the home. I find it gives a warmer feel :-)
