Sunset

I had just finished enjoying a lunch time bacon buttie when I heard a loud CRACK in the vicinity of the kitchen.  The wind had just blown up outside, so I wondered if a branch had blown off a tree into the kitchen window.

I looked up and said, ‘what’s that?’ Mr C leapt up and said ‘I know what that is’ and dashed into the kitchen.  When I entered the kitchen a few seconds later, I was greeted with a heap of glass on the kitchen floor underneath the cooker!!  He had closed the oven door without turning the grill off…

After a few minutes dismay (which was more about it being so close to Christmas than the oven being broken) I found out the cooker details and Mr C phoned up the Hotpoint helpline.  New glass is ordered but the systems were showing that the earliest date they could get an engineer out was 24th December!!  When their computer systems are fully up and running (which they aren’t on a Sunday) they will check to see if there is an earlier slot that we can be fitted into.

After clearing the kitchen of smoke and glass we set off to a garden centre which was always the plan.  I needed some Christmas cards and some candles because I couldn’t find anything suitable in Birmingham when I was there last weekend.  When I left the garden centre the sun was going down and I was treated to this glorious sunset.

Clouds and Silver (or in this case Golden) linings ;-)

That’s one of those things which are incredibly frustrating – can feel the gaping open oven from here. Hope you can get that glass – what will happen if you can’t?

The main oven and the hob still work perfectly. Presumably the grill will work, haven’t tried it yet…

It just looks a mess ;-) and I could have done without the hassle of trying to get it fixed at this time of year.

Oh no! Good luck with that Cherie.
You might now have to be treated to Christmas lunch out. Silver lining?

  3. You can always come to my place to have a proper Christmas roast.
But you’ve gotta finish all your Brussels sprouts. He he

Now you are tempting me… I Brussels Sprouts tonight and I finished every last one ;-)

I did choose them specially from the farm shop this afternoon ;-)

apart from the kitchen mishap, i would say you had a satisfying day, judging from that gorgeous sunset and those marvelous, fleeting colours

Isn’t that just incredible the colours!!!

When I was a kid-even a teen- I loved to lay on the ground and just gaze at the sky.One of my fondness memories of this past-time was doing so as an adult on my granddad’s farm, at night, looking at the stars. I has never seen such a sight, one could practically pluck them out of the air they felt so close.

Great photo, thanks for sharing it, Cherie.

WOW what a story and what a timing… I am glad nobody got hurt. Glass can be very nasty. Well as a treat you got that amazing sunset, almost nothing can top that :)

Not what you need just before Christmas. There has been gorgeous sunsets and made even more interesting with a vivid blue sky behind. Do hope they can get to you earlier than the 24th.

They didn’t phone back but we phoned them yesterday. The girl on the phone was a bit uncomfortable when Mr C asked if the had got us booked in. She said you are probably going to shout at me and the immediate thought was that we weren’t booked in at all But no, we are booked in on the 24th (and that is why she thought she would get shouted at). She did think that there would be some cancellations and the job might get moved forward.

The cooker works, so it won’t spoil Christmas. Just needed to know which day they are coming, so one of us can book time off work!
