Yes, it has the same effect on me.
My hubby took me there , sorry I had no idea why. It is a man made mound, they have no idea what its purpose is, you cannot walk on it .. and it apparently contains nothing , sorry . I have contemplated about it too but I stopped once and never again.
This article says it was prehistoric cathedral …

The article is referring to the book I read in my second link. I didn’t get the impression that the author concluded it was a cathedral. He went into detail of its construction materials and layers and how the ditch had changed. He also explained how it connected to other features in the Avebury landscape. When it was built there would have been a clear site to Avebury.
There are many similar man made mounds around the world and one has to wonder… Why?
Can’t think of the term. But our plains Indians have something like your Silbury hill. There not sure how old they may be.
Coffee is on
I am currently reading a book on old Indian mounds. The ones on the book are burial sites, which Silbury Hill seems not to be.
I have heard of this Hill…what a interesting spot.
The archaeological research is fascinating
It is interesting how the Roman road goes round it, Cherie
Yes, it makes me wonder what they knew that we don’t know. What knowledge has been lost over the years…
Yes – will we ever know? Have enjoyed looking at your recent posts and excellent photographs. It is a fascinating part of the world and a re-visit is long over-due. So many places, so little time!
I am glad you enjoyed my posts
I know what you when you say so many places and so little time.
Whatever the history, you’ve done a great composition job on what would otherwise be considered by some as dull mounds.
It is the history that fascinates me
