This morning when I turned the key in my car ignition nothing happened… I was reminded that on Friday the car had been a bit sluggish starting and that I had taken it for a bit of drive on Saturday to boost the battery.
Now I was in a bit of a dilemma. How was I going to get to work on time? I considered a taxi but I thought it was unlikely that one would be available straight away at that time in the morning. I prevailed on the services of Mr C, although I had to wait for him to finish getting ready for work. I was a little hassled when I arrived at work with moments to spare.
I was left wondering how to go about arranging to get my car checked and fixed as I wasn’t entirely convinced the problem was the battery. Mr C checked the car when he got home and he decided it wasn’t a battery problem. That left me with two obvious choices to try; phone the garage for them them to pick it up and check it over or check my RAC cover. I did the latter and as I suspected I hadn’t opted for the home cover option. I chose to upgrade to the home cover option and a very nice gentleman appeared on my doorstop in less than an hour.
He asked me when I last drove it and I mentioned my Saturday drive and that it had been popped on and off the drive the day before (Mr C had been shuffling cars after visitors). Straight away he said your engine is flooded and then proceeded to fix the problem and tell me all the technical details of what causes the problem. Within ten minutes he had gone and I was left to decide what I might like for dinner…

i have had problems starting my Jeep now and then this winter…
at -40C everything gets a bit tight…
we have an electric block heater that keeps the engine block warm on nights like this…
but it’s important to plug it in

Car problems are NO fun, I am glad that you were able to solve it and that it was NOT the battery.
I am glad that I have mine in a public parking, indoors….. never have to get the frost off.
Insurance is a no-brainer and I am glad you could upgrade on the spot and was helped immediately.
Now I go to my Skoda and hope to be at work soon

I never dreamed that my car might break down at home, it just goes to show. As I wasn’t sure what was wrong with it I thought it was best to upgrade and call out the experts. I would have had to pay a garage to come out and look at it or tow it away and that would have been a bit of a rigmarole…
A cautionary tale, Cherie – I don’t have home cover either, but it is good to know that one can upgrade on the spot. I didn’t know that
If you upgrade on the spot you do have to pay a surcharge for using the service straight away. But I thought it was worth it due to less hassle all round.
Glad it’s sorted for you. If it’s any consolation, my super VW cut out while I was driving it the other week. The ‘engine control unit’ failed, rendering a decent car into a pile of expensive junk. Hugely expensive to replace – and of course out of warrenty; I’m still discussing this with VW, trying to use words like ‘fit for purpose’ etc..!
Ouch!!! The worst part of the car to fail. That is the downside of modern vehicles – too much electronic gadgetry that cannot be fixed, it has to be replaced. The dashboard went on mine last year and that had to be replaced.
