On these two days, Jesus made a number of appearances and addresses, most famously to “cleanse” the temple of money changers and merchants who had set up business in God’s house. Jesus also appeared at the temple courts to debate the priests and community leaders.
Matthew 21:12-25:13 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus at the Temple
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[a] but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’[b]”14 The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant.
16 “Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.
“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,
“‘From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise’?”
17 And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.
Who did the painting? I don’t think I have seen it before.
It is by Carl Bloch and entitled Christ Driving the Moneylenders from the Temple
Again, thanks for sharing the story. Hope you’re having a wonderful week.
I hope you have a wonderful week too
It is amazing how many many wonderful paintings there are showing the story what happened to Jesus in that last week before Easter. Sometimes it is good to be reminded. Easter is not about the eggs and the chickens and the little rabbits made of chocolate…
Thank you, Cherry. Wonderful paintings with great details.
I am glad that you are enjoying the post with their paintings. I got half way through and realised I could do it better (to include more paintings). Maybe next Easter
Inspirational and touching!
Have blessed Easter dear friend
Thank you Shabana, I send you my blessing too
My parents sent me to Sunday School in Malaysia!
But they are never religious at all.
That is why you know the story
The story teaches many things, on different levels.
This year, more than usual, I’m remembering all these Biblical passages, Cherry. Today is now Wednesday and exactly 22 years ago, the Wednesday before Easter, my dad died. What perfect timing, I thought, for a preacher!
Thinking of you as you remember your dad It does seem like perfect timing for a preacher.
This year Easter is quite close to when my father passed away. I don’t usually think of him around this time but I always remember his birthday
i remember seeing this reproduction some years ago and the backstory behind it left an impression on me, CP.
The story does have that effect. It gives pause for thought.
You have shared all sorts of things with me (and everyone) all year. And given me especially your kindness and friendship, encouragement and care. You have prayed with me too. This is the sort of Love of your fellows that Christ wanted you to know and do.
As we approach Easter, Cherie, know that I shall be joining you celebrating this deepest of Mysteries, and that together we shall understand a little more the Love of Christ.
God Bless you my dear friend.
Thankyou
I am honoured to be your friend, you inspire me to be more than I am.
As we approach Easter I will be holding your hand as we celebrate the deepest of Mysteries and the love of Christ. I still hold dear a special memory from Easter morning 2015 when I felt ‘His’ loving touch and presence with me early in the morning.
Sending you my love xx
