The Knife Angel

Due to Covid-19 the Grand Prix was cancelled leaving Mr C at a loose end. I convinced him that we should go and see the Knife Angel on Sunday afternoon just in case movements around the Telford area are restricted (due to the dreaded virus) in the coming week or two. Neither of us wanted to miss it in its current location.

Part of my suggestion for an afternoon out after visiting the Knife Angel was a short walk around Telford Town Park. The weather was perfect. Although Mr C was not in the mood and reluctant he indulged me. He was pleasantly surprised with what the Town Park has to offer and wants to go back for a longer walk to explore more of the history of the area.

The sculpture, made from over 100,000 seized blades, was specifically created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour whilst solidifying our critical need for social change. Not only does the Angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour, but it is also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions.

  1. I know someone who think the statue out knife would be cool

Hi CherryPie… This park does look very interesting.lots to see. So the Angel must be going around the country? . Yes there were very many F1 fans, waiting for the first race, especially two of my friends who had flown to Oz for the race.. They had a few other things to, do. flew to see her sister, then the race and then something else. But can you imagine? Take care. Anne

The Angel is doing the rounds of the country. It’s birthplace in Oswestry is near to its current location.

How upsetting for your friends I hope the rest of their holiday made up for it :-)

Lovely to hear from you xx

excellent shot, CP. my favourite is the one with the column – i can see why the walk was so pleasant. i appreciated the close up of the knife angel.

I hadn’t heard of this amazing work of art. The back is particularly beautiful to me.

    • CherryPie says:

I have seen the artwork twice before but it was placed in such a way that the back was inaccessible. The fact that in Telford it was placed so the wings could be seen was another reason I was really keen to see it :-)

I am so glad I persuaded Mr C, as you say the back is beautiful :-)

i am stunned by this magnificent statue ,thank you for sharing this as never saw such special thing before
this is great that after exploring the park Mr c was happy :)
i wish you safe healthy days ahead my friend stay blessed and careful!

    • CherryPie says:

The park is lovely and the angel statue is powerful and moving. i loved the fact Mr C enjoyed the walk.

Thank you I am trying to be careful in uncertain times. Panic buyers and careless people make this difficult.

I hope that the virus stays away from your part of the world.

  6. Steve Hayes says:

Very interesting. Has the “social distancing” thing curtailed your wanderings?

    • CherryPie says:

It has not curtailed me from stepping out from my front door. But I am not comfortable doing so because people do not respect the social distance which is sensible under the circumstances. I have had to cancel my Easter Holiday and postpone other holiday plans.

I have not been able to get all of the items on my weekly shopping list because I am not willing to put myself at risk milling with the crowds of shoppers panic buying first thing in the morning.

  7. This statue can possibly give one tetanus.

    • CherryPie says:

If you climbed over the barriers to get to it – maybe…

The knifes were all properly cleaned and prepared before being added to the sculpture.
