The coins are not made of gold but a unique combination of metals:
The coins feature an outer ring composition of 76% copper, 20% Zinc, and 4% Nickel. The inner ring is made of Nickel-plated alloy. There is also a secret element to try to stop the coins being counterfeited.
Despite not being gold those boxes contain a fortune.
