It was time for one last breakfast before flying home but, before that, we opened the window to enjoy one last view of the twinkling lights in the harbour. We were greeted by a bing bang bong ‘Hi de Hi’ like announcement calling the latest cruise ship passengers to breakfast. I hastily shut the window to block the disturbance out!
We arrived to breakfast at 7am to find that we were early, even the ‘Kitchen Cat’ was asleep. Breakfast wasn’t due to start until 7.30, but we were allowed in, as were another couple before us. The breakfast buffet was mostly ready to serve.
I was pleasantly surprised to find pancakes, which had been missing for the past couple of days. I enjoyed them with finely diced fruit and a drizzle of honey on top. Even though it was still dark, the outdoor seating area was available. Of course, we chose to sit outside which I am sure amused the waiter who showed us to our seat. Breakfasting in the dark as the sun rose was a lovely ‘first time’ experience.
We collected our bags from our room and checked out of the hotel to wait for our Taxi outside the front of the hotel. We were early but just after we arrived a taxi driver waved at us and asked if we were Mr & Mrs C. We were quickly on our way to the airport where we were greeted by a Jet2 rep who gave us directions to the check in desk. This ran smoothly even though I was directed to go through manual passport control as I had been on the way in to Madeira.
Before take off an air steward approached us and checked who we were before informing us that we were entitled to a free drink because we had booked an indulgence holiday! It would have been rude to not accept a free glass of wine to go with our sandwiches.
The flight ran smoothly despite a little bit of air turbulence and, surprisingly, I didn’t get held up at the border check, even though I didn’t have time to take my glasses off!
Bags collected, car keys collected, car located and soon we were Homewood bound.
