A couple of these views are similar to photos I took in my 2009 visit. I am pleased with the way my new camera captures the sky and details in comparison to my previous camera (which I still use).

To celebrate the millennium, the Duke and Duchess of Roxburghe commissioned the construction of an ornamental parterre on the Queen’s lawn by Floors Castle.
I found it a little disappointing that provisions haven’t been made to view the whole design of the garden from a higher viewpoint.

The Flodden battle site is very close to where I stay when I visit Northumberland. My previous visits have always been in September and I was curious to see how the land looked in a different season.

Torricelli is another water feature in the Serpent Garden. The water slowly creeps up the tubes and eventually bursts out in a cascade of fountains which slowly diminish. Kids are fascinated by this one and love to explore the feature first hand

The garden is named the serpent garden due to the topiary that snakes it’s way through this garden feature:

The poison garden tour is always fascinating, you get to learn different things on each visit.  On this visit I learned that laurel which is a common garden plant is capable of releasing cyanide gas which can prove fatal!
