The first photograph shows the south transept with what is left of the tower just behind it.
The second photograph shows one of the four transept chapels. Each of the chapels was covered with a rib vault, with an altar beneath the east window.
A view looking out from the chapel can be seen here.
When’s the book coming out, Cherie, with all the photos?
I am not sure they are good enough for a book…
I must visit the abbey one day
I think you would enjoy it.
….. to continue the theme from previously-
If you love old buildings and also gardens then you need to visit the Alhambra in Granada.
Perfection is the only word for it.
At sunset go the area known as Albaicin and take in the wonderful view of it from there.
If you are really lucky you might hear one of the oldies who sit in the plaza start singing ‘cante jondo’ to himself or to his fellow oldies.
there is still magic in the world
That really does sound like my sort of place I will have to look it up
Incidentally I do have a board game called Alhambra which is about building the best palace garden. I never thought to look up the place behind the name of the game :-0
Old stones are so talkative…I like the blue sky just above. A great composition for both photos.
Thanks Claudia I sometimes like to use sepia or black and white for these sort of shots but it seemed such a waste of that beautiful sky. It gives a lovely contrast to the stones.
How lovely.
Thank You
It would have wonderful in its heyday.
I should imagine it would be very impressive.
Looking slightly the worse for wear, Cherie. The south transept, that is.
I do hope you don’t think the same about the photo that is scheduled for later today…
Love it! Thank you for these lovely pix of magical places.
Glad you like them and enjoy my interpretation of the place
A pleasure for my eyes, again.
Echoing JD’s tip re the Alhambra. A magic place … especially when there ar no tourists around. [See the §m/l$y?]
I really must check it out if every we are allowed to fly out of Britain again!
It does sound wonderful especially if there were not tourists around. Although would that mean I couldn’t be there either?
