Holiday Mood ;-)I have just finished sorting out the photographs that I took during my holiday in Northumberland.  As usual it took me a while because there are around 400 of them.  Surprisingly the weather was mostly sunny it only rained on one afternoon, with a very brief shower on another day.  That being said the journey there last Sunday was awful, the rain poured down making motorway driving very difficult!

The Coach House where I always stay when I visit Northumberland was just as good as usual, very welcoming and relaxing with delicious breakfasts and evening meals.  After the evening meal tea and coffee was served in the guest lounge where guests can sit and chat and get to know each other.  One of the guests that was staying on the first night only lives a few miles away from me. The room I always choose to stay in (Orchard View) is situated next to the guest lounge. It used to be two bedrooms with a shared bathroom and was the first to be used by guests in the 1970’s.  You can view pictures of the room here and if you click on the ‘little changes‘ link you can see how the room has changed over the years.

During my stay I managed to visit some of my old favourites such as the Alnwick Garden, Alnwick, Barter Books, Cragside, Norham Castle and Flodden.  I also got to visit many places I have not been before; Warkworth Castle, Belsay Hall Castle and Gardens, Floors Castle, Kelso, Rothbury, Chain Bridge Honey Farm, The Union Chain Bridge and Paxton House.

Once again I was sad when I had to leave and say my goodbyes…

Belsay gardens would be in full bloom and particularly nice at this time of year
did you enjoy your long meandering stroll around to the castle?

alas I cannot climb those castle stairs any more :(
the perils of old age and wobbly knees :)

It was very colourful and I loved the walk :-) I am sure you can guess that I took a few photos along the way ;-)

I have to admit I only went half way up the stairs, I am not always fond of the heights when I get to the top. On this occasion I wimped out half way up!

I’ve never been to Northumberland. I imagine it to be very desolate but beautiful. Your photos, as always, are lovely.

    Northumberland or Northumbria, Cherie?

One of my blogging friends, Chrystal Jigsaw lives in Northumberland. We visit from time to time – next time you visit give me a shout and we’ll meet up for a coffee???? I fully understand about having a favourite hotel – I feel so full of joy when we arrive in Isle of Man and head for Port Erin, to the Falcon’s Nest hotel – love it! Only a year to go!!!!
Nice to be back, just catching up with everybody. xx

It would be great to meet up for a coffee, I will certainly let you know next time I am up that way :-) I am glad you have had a nice time away too.

Interesting the different types of people. My brother and his wife have a favourite hotel and specific room overlooking the sea in Fife, to which they return regularly, whereas I actually find something disturbing about staying in the same hotel room twice (other than on the same visit, I mean). I don’t like retracing my steps (well… not in that way, but will joyfully go back to favourite golf courses again and again). Sorry, I’m rambling. Northumberland is nice. I honeymooned in Alnwick (being a poor student when we married). Alnwick Castle is impressive.

For some reason this particular place feels like home to me (or rather home from home).

It feels like I am meant to be there…

The castle at Alnwick is impressive but so is Bamborough and some of the ruined castles look dramatic set against the coast. Then there is the scenery and the quiet open roads.

I just love the area :-)

    Hi Cherie,
I have only driven through Northumberland and that is somewhere we would like to go to spend some time. Maybe next year. Glad you had a good time away, will be interested in reading your posts. I haven’t been to the cathedral you mentioned.
(Not letting me comment for some reason, trying again.)

      Sorted the commenting problem ;-)

I know you would love the area around where I stay in Northumberland. There is so much to see and so many great photo opportunities. The roads are very quiet and it is very relaxing :-)

Hereford Cathedral is very interesting, as well as the chained book library it also has the Mappa Mundi. I was going to revisit it a couple of months ago but those exhibits were closed due to refurbishment. It should have re-opened by now…

The chained library reminds me very much of the Harry Potter books.

It sounds like a lovely place to stay. I’ve recently learned more about Northumberland and it is now on my list next time we visit the UK.
