Memorial Bench

I was interested to see a recent post on the Attingham Park Warden’s blog regarding a survey of the parks benches. I do love to ‘sit and rest a while‘ when I go out and about on my travels ;-)

This week I have also finished writing up the ever-exciting Attingham Bench Survey! Ok, so there are more interesting aspects of the job, but a regular check of all our seats and benches is necessary. A fascinating fact for you – not including the 100 chairs outside the Tea Room or the 40 outside the Carriage House Cafe, there are 102 seats across the park, gardens and around the mansion. I have sat, bounced, wiggled and wriggled on all of them to check for sturdiness and comfort, and looked over them to judge their appearance.

I had no idea there were quite so many benches around the estate, I think I need to do a bit more exploring ;-)

Lady Berwick  had the names of her deceased dogs inscribed on the top of this bench in their memory, it is situated at the back of the house.

What a fascinating report from the man who did the survey of benches! He obviously really enjoyed his work, and I must confess it never occurred to me before that public benches and chairs have to be checked for saftey etc. Your picture of that bench looks very inviting, Cherie

I always like to take advantage of the benches, I was amazed that there were so many in the park!

It was a lady who did the survey of the benches ;-)

Until I got my walker (on which I can sit), I was very grateful for benches on streets and in parks. It provided the rest I needed when walking with a cane. I always love your photos: “Rest a while with me.” We rush so much in life, seldom allowing a few moments for rest with a friend, or meditation.

That is why I enjoy those benches so much :-)

Old benches and old barns–there is a certain quaintness about them. That’s a lot of benches around the park, but it is nice to have one handy when you are tired and want to sit for awhile. Have a terrific weekend. Mickie :)

Can you imagine that as your job, Cherry! Quality control on all the benches!
