Skyfall

Last night I had the opportunity to go and see Skyfall which is the latest Bond movie.

I found it to be an excellent film and in many ways it is a transition from the world that was to the world that is now. The world and the threats have changed in the 50 years since the first Bond film, Dr No, but the main characters and the typically unique style of humour reminds us that it is a Bond film.

Silva, who is the villain, is deliciously creepy and a surprising change from the villains of previous Bond movies.  He is also one of the best villains I have seen in a long time. The new Q is perfect for the role and I look forward to seeing him develop his role in future Bond movies. Eve also played her part excellently; her role develops throughout the movie as does the interplay between her and Bond.

Leaving aside the fact that it is a Bond movie, I think that anyone who likes a good action thriller would enjoy this film.

I am such a huge Judi Dench AND Daniel Craig fan, Cherry, so I just loved this movie a couple weeks ago. I hate that it’s Judi Dench’s last Bond movie…but then, she IS 77 right now! What a woman. What a life. I’ll be most interesting to see if the new Q can/will fill her shoes! :)

She was brilliant in that role and the chemistry between her and Daniel was perfect!

Judging by the new M’s performance in the movie (and the actors performances in other roles) I think he is equal to the task and I look forward to seeing how he develops the role.

Cherry, your review makes me feel tempted to go and see it right away. I’ve noticed the title has been screened but didn’t know it was a Bond movie. You know, many years ago I found a few old Bond books in my parents library, Dr No was among the first ones I read. And I like the movie series, with all the Bond characters… :)

Heard there’s no romance to speak of though. Was there much?

The nature of the threat and the villain meant that the romance was brief. Other non romantic bonds where focused on more. It is a very clever film, much to think about. Or you could just sit back and enjoy the action ;-)
