This theme had me scratching my head for something suitable. Then I remembered the hay bales at Flodden on top of the freshly cut field. I then realised that the site being a battle field meant their was a sadder hidden meaning for the word chopped.

Bales were square when I was a child, but just looking a the photo brings back the lovely smell and the hot weather. I loved haying season. Probably because I wasn’t doing any of the work.
Yes they did used to be square, how things have changed… From an artistic point of view, round is better

No wooden spikes just chopped and bloody
Shopped onions would have come to mind instantly….But this is much better, if we forget the somber meaning, and just look at the fresh, good smelling hay.
I thought of lots of chopped vegetables, but wanted to do something different. I thought of the chopped hay. Then I realised there was another connortion to the picture.
