…from Arley Arboretum
Out in the leafy Worcestershire countryside, Arley is a lovely place for picnic, either the station, where there are a number of excellent spots, or by the river which is just 200 metres down the lane. A footbridge will take you over the river to the village and, after a short walk, you will arrive at Arley Arboretum.
These beautiful historic gardens and arboretum dating back to the late 1700’s are surrounded by over 1600 acres of countryside within the picturesque village of Upper Arley beside the river Severn. In addition to providing wonderful walks through the grounds there are walks along the banks of the river, all set in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside with far reaching views.
Go back in time and watch the Severn Valley Railway trains steam across the hill from one of the magnificent signposted walks.
Arley is such a lovely place! I think I’ve only been to Worcester in Worcestershire.
Does it look like Westonbirt Arboretum in autumn? I really love that place.
Yes, also Stourhead.
It is a lot smaller than Westonbirt but the colours are just as lovely in autumn
Thank you so much for this, Cherie – I am always on the lookout for somewhere different to go
The arboretum is lovely and I must visit that lovely station I have visited others on the Severn Valley but not this one.
How adorable…especially what looks like a toy train. I love arboretums, Cherry, and can see why this would be a must to see.
As we were standing waiting for the train there was a couple sitting on a bench behind us. I could here them discussing that we must have zoom lenses on our cameras
I have really enjoyed reading this Cherie, it brought back some fond memories of Worcestershire, such a pretty county. My sister used to live in Droitwich Spa near the city of Worcester.
We used to have lots of trips and picnic out and about in the lovely countryside.
I liked Worcester and the cathedral.
Thanks for sharing this, great pictures too, particularly the steam train!
Best wishes,
Di. xx
Worcester is a nice part of the world and I am lucky that these places are with in easy reach for a day trip
The trains are bonus but it is the flowers not he wall that make this for me.
[I can't believe I've said that; I normally prefer trains to flowers ]
HaHa The flowers were lovely up against that wall. I also like to see the trains on the Severn Valley line. Daniels Mill is another good place to see them
