These are pictures of the waterfall at Abbey House Gardens. The brochure explains the idea behind this part of the garden:
As the winter of 2001 approached it was time to organise our annual tree pollarding when dead, dying or dangerous tree limbs are removed before the winds attack!
An area in the back corner, beyond the ponds, had not been previously focussed upon, but with the tree works undertaken, a large pool of light appeared which brought with it the inspiration for a waterfall. The sound and movement of water would put life and light into a previously ‘dead corner’ and complete the basic structure of the garden.
Impressed by images of Japanese waterfalls, we’ve planted azaleas and acers among rockery plants and reflected Japanese mythology by causing the cascade to fall onto a ‘fish stone’. The fish struggles to swim up the waterfall but when it gets to the top it turns into a dragon, a symbol of good fortune.
The whole story is a parable of man’s struggle to achieve and attain. Not inappropriate for the work undertaken in this garden.

I wish I have that at my backyard! Hehe. Nice one!
It would be nice at the bottom of my garden too
Amazing such luscious colours in what appears to be a barren area!
They made a good job of it didn’t they?
So, so pretty!!!!

Thank you
Beautiful pictures. Just love the colors.
Glad you like them
What a lovely garden spot… so peaceful and serene.
The whole garden was wonderful
Cherie – if you had a house in the country, would you have a garden there? Who’d landscape it?
I would probably want to design it myself although I would need lots of help with all the work.
Cherie: yet another beautiful spot – you have such a good ‘eye’ for a pic. Malmesbury? Makes me wish I’d managed to get there and have a good look around while I was still in the West. Never did. Still, I can always visit Cherie’s Place to see the pick of the sights! Thank you – and have a great w/e.
Thank you The Abbey and the gardens were both lovely. I will certainly visit the gardens again sometime.
What a beautiful spot. They have certainly complimented the natural landscape, haven’t they?
Happy weekend to you Cherie
They have it is amazing what they have done with the garden since they moved there.
Very, very lovely Cherie. I’d love a garden like that.
Thank you, I wish mine was like that too!
Lovely and loved the parable, too.
