Snowshill Manor

We set off on our journey later than we intended, partly due to the inclement weather. Along the way we spotted an ideal cafe for lunch, but the mornings downpour had turned the parking area into a field of mud! This meant we had to abandon the idea of lunch there, it also involved some off-road driving, across a field in order to get back to the main road.

We continued on our journey and ended up at the National Trust property Snowshill Manor for lunch. The cafe had a nice ambiance and the food was delicious. By the time we had finished eating it had stopped raining, allowing me to take pictures of the garden before entering the house. I found Snowshill Manor with its eclectic collections quite fascinating.

The Old Bell

After visiting the Manor we made our way to Malmesbury and The Old Bell where we were staying for the weekend. When we entered the room we found that there was a rather unhappy looking bear in residence…

A Room with a Bear

Mr C suprised me by producing a bottle of Lustau Sherry from his packing case. We enjoyed a glass whilst we got ready to dine in the hotel restaurant. The food was delicious and we had a nice relaxing evening.

    I am envious again :)

  2. Looks just perfect. Reckon Bear was just lonely!

Maybe he was lonely or he didn’t like some of the people that invaded his room! Either way he insisted we pay his release fee so he could come home with us ;-)

A place we liked – the market square, the tomb.

Malmesbury has a lovely feel to it. One evening we sat and ate in a restaurant overlooking the market square. We rather liked the the tower which was surprisingly never attached to a church.

That’s a fabulous aspect in that first pic and the bird in the last pic is a bit of all right too.

Good morning, you have visited Abbey House, wonderful. Do you know how it is with the owner in the moment. He is very ill, I read.
Abbey House ist one of my favorite gardens, I visited him several times. In *The Bell* we had lunch, and you are so lucky to had a room there!

I didn’t know the owner had been ill. I have searched on the internet and cannot find any up to date information on his health. I am glad the gardens are still open for now.

The Bell is a lovely place to stay in. When we arrived we were given a free room upgrade :-)

Ha! That’s the famous bear! I’m glad you rescued him.
