Petworth House in the parish of Petworth, West Sussex, England, is a late 17th-century Grade I listed country house, rebuilt in 1688 by Charles Seymour, 6th Duke of Somerset, and altered in the 1870s to the design of the architect Anthony Salvin.[2] It contains intricate wood-carvings by Grinling Gibbons (d. 1721). It is the manor house of the manor of Petworth. For centuries it was the southern home for the Percy family, earls of Northumberland.
Petworth is famous for its extensive art collection made by the Northumberland and Seymour/Somerset families and George Wyndham, 3rd Earl of Egremont (1751–1837), containing many works by his friend J. M. W. Turner. It also has an expansive deer park, landscaped by Capability Brown, which contains a large herd of fallow deer.
During our visit to Petworth we saw some of the painted elephants that were part of Elmer’s Art Parade.
I love those painted elephants – just superb. We went to a display of painted elephants (different ones) that had been on a trail round Worcester.
There are lots of lovely variations on these painted artwork trails.
Prior to this, I encountered Dinosaurs and Mammoths.
Wow. That looks wonderful. Have to visit. Putting it on my list.
I asume you have to pay a fee to visit the estate?
You have to pay to visit the house and its grounds. The wider estate is free to enter.
So that is one of the oldest surviving copies of the original Holbein painting of Henry VIII (the original being lost to fire), actually also done by Holbein’s studio, is that right or no? I wasn’t clear on that in a quick search.
That is what the National Trust say about the painting.

Oh, we have an elephant parade trail in London many years ago.
This year, we have “Morph” and I took so many pictures of it.
It’s so nostalgic cos I remember Morph from the telly when I was little in Malaysia!
And the music from Take Hart.
Always remember to look up

Tony Hart was an amazing artist, I have fond childhood memories of ‘Take Hart’ and Morph.
