I had an extended break after my recent holiday. My bathroom was being refitted, which was long overdue. I probably should have given a public health warning ahead of showing the above before photo. I will not be sad to be rid of those pink flowers which were not at all to my taste. I love flowers, but I like them in a garden or occasionally in a vase.
It is not very clear in the after photos, but the tiling is grey and the bath panel and cupboard have grey and beige flecks running across them to compliment the tiling above the bath. In due course I will take some photos in natural light so you can see the effect more clearly.

Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.
Ah me! how hard a thing it is to say
What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,
Which in the very thought renews the fear.
Cante Alighieri (1256 – 1321)

On my recent holiday I got a bit carried away and took around 700 photographs so it has taken me a long time to sort them out. Now I have finished I will continue to post about the many places that I visited whilst I was away. For those of you who would like to see them sooner, I have also uploaded photos of the places I visited to a gallery which can be found here. Any photo can be clicked on for a larger view or to scroll through the photos. I haven’t put captions on all of them yet, but I am getting there.
It is part of a project to collate all my holiday diaries and photographs in one place so that it is easy for family and friends to access them. It may take some time

It is my turn at Vision & Verb and today I am talking about the The Battle of Flodden and my recent visit to the site where that tragic event took place. My visit coincided with the 500th anniversary of the battle.

One of he events that was taking place on the 500th anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Flodden was an archaeological dig in one of the fields where the main conflict took place. The dig hoped to find the remains of bodies of those who had fallen. The bodies would not be disturbed, but left in situ and the site would be marked as a mass war grave.

On Sunday Mr C went to the Derby wargame show with a couple of his mates. I was asked if I wanted to go and I considered perhaps being dropped of at a Stately home nearby. I decided to stay at home, I thought there might be too much wargame talk in the car.
I had just finished reading a chapter in a book about The Battle of Flodden to help me with a post I was writing for Vision & Verb, when the phone rang. It was Mr C. He started off by telling me that a Battle of Flodden re-enactment game was going on at the show. But more importantly as he arrived at the show he bumped into Gavin & Jen (two of the Aussies we met at the Coach House). It turns out that he is a wargamer too!!
What are the chances of that?
