Omni Magazine was one of my favourite reads in my younger years. The magazine covered exploratory science and science fiction of the day.
I read and collected the magazines for a number of years, but my collection has long since gone. Occasionally there have been certain articles and Sci Fi stories that I have wished to re-read in respect of the world as it is today and I have regretted the loss of my magazines….
A recent post from the ‘Daily Grail‘ alerted me to the fact that all the magazines are now all available for download.
Originally published in late 1978, running through till 1995, Omni covered a lot of the same ground that we do here on TDG – interesting new science, science on the fringe, and even science ‘beyond’ the fringe through its wonderful science fiction shorts (authored by SFF giants such as Isaac Asimov, William Gibson, Robert Heinlein, Stanislaw Lem, George R.R. Martin, Orson Scott Card, Harlan Ellison, and Ben Bova, along with art by the likes of H.R.Giger and other wonderful artists).
I wonder how many of the predictions have come true…
On my recent weekend away in Paris there was a very relaxing video playing in the reception area. It showed a Starling murmuration. It is similar to this one, although it was minus the sunset (and the music).
It was very relaxing… Enjoy
PS: You will note I have cracked the YouTube embedding problem which has been bugging me for months The default code does not work on my blog, but now with a few days stuck at home with limited options (bathroom being refitted) I have had the mind-space to figure it out and I have found two ways to get it to work!
For some reason my blog refuses to imbed videos, so to view the video you need to click on the picture. The video looks best in full screen view.
I invite you to join Blog Blast for Peace on November the 4th 2012 to help promote peace throughout the world with a post entitled ‘Dona nobis pacem’.
Blog Blast for peace is an online community of international bloggers and social media users who “Blog4Peace” and join together each November to promote peace in our world.
You don’t have to have a blog to blog for peace. People all over the planet change there statuses to “Dona nobis pacem” and post an earth graphic called a peace globe – on blogs, websites, Facebook, twitter, pinterest and many other online websites.
Over half the world’s countries display the movement’s logo somewhere on a social media site or a blog and thousands have written inspirational posts and designed peace art in support of peace with one voice.
A new generation of people speaking of peace not war since 2006.
We believe if words are powerful this matters.
