Happy Easter

Each year at Easter the local parish church erects a wooden cross.  During the morning service on Easter Sunday members of the congregation (including children) adorn the cross with flowers.

This is the cross that was decorated in 2010.  Easter that year was the same weekend as it is this year and I remember making a special journey to take the photos.  This particular cross holds lots of memories for me…

The Drum Towers

Powis castle began life as the medieval fortress of the Welsh Princes of Powys. The drum towers that guard the entrance to Powis castle have survived from those medieval beginnings.

In 1587 the castle was sold to an English nobleman, Sir Edward Herbert. The castle is very much a family home and for more than 400 years has been remodelled to reflect the differing requirements of the Herbert family who, today still have an apartment at Powis.

Cedars of Lebanon

There are some fine specimens of Lebanon Cedars in Attingham Park but as I mentioned in a previous post, they have become quite fragile.

This spring the Cedars have cast their seeds into the wind, I have high hopes for a rebirth.

thousands of seeds from the cedars of Lebanon have been blown across the lawn leading down to the river – we will wait and see if we get any seedlings and transplant them to the nursery to grow on as replacement trees. Our cedars are unfortunately past their prime and many of them have rot inside, which is why they are fenced off with railings to prevent anyone from walking beneath.
