There is a silence into which the world cannot intrude. There is an ancient peace you carry in your heart and have not lost.

An inscription at the bottom says : In honour and memory of the members of 2,3,8 and 100 Groups who served in the Ely district during the second world war, 1939 to 1945. The outer panels show aircrew and airman figures, between them are Archangel Michael and St. George. Below these are the badges of the four groups. At the bottom of the window there are scenes of aircraft in flight, including one of a bomber going over Ely Cathedral. The window is in the North Choir Aisle. It was designed by E.Liddall Armitage and unveiled on Remembrance Sunday, 1955 Link

This sculpture by David Wynne shows the moment when Mary recognises Jesus on the morning of his resurrection.
A sign next to the sculpture states that the figures are so thin it is as though everything has been stripped from them except the core of their being.
Jesus said: ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ Supposing him to be the gardener she said, ‘Sir, if you have taken him, tell me where you have laid him and I will go and get him.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary.’ She turned and cried out, ‘Teacher!’ Jesus said to her, ‘Do not try to hold on to me because I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brother and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ So Mary Magdalene went and told the disciples, ‘I have seen the Lord!’

Bishop John Alcock was successively Lord Chancellor, Lord President of Wales and the Comptroller of the Royal Works and Buildings to King Henry VII. He was a generous benefactor to the University of Cambridge – he gave manuscripts to Peterhouse College and founded Jesus College, and was the builder of the main part of the Bishop’s Palace at Ely. This chapel where he is buried was begun in 1488; it appears that it was originally intended to encompass a much larger area than its current footprint within the Cathedral. It contains many examples of Bishop Alcock’s rebus (a picture to represent words), a cockerel standing on a globe – a pun on his name.*
Unless the Lord builds the house,
those who build it labour in vain.
Psalm 127:1

The pulpit is the place where, every Sunday, the preacher uses the Bible readings to explain the Christian faith and to apply it our lives today.*
The modern sculpture above the pulpit, ‘Christ in Majesty’ by Peter Ball is carved from oak and covered in copper, brass & gold leaf. It reminds us that the responsibility of preachers is not to expound their own ideas but to point us to Christ.*
What we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord’.
2 Corinthians 4:5
